34th Annual Baltimore Summer Antiques Show
August 21st-24th, 2014

The show attracts tens of thousands of knowledgeable collectors and respected dealers from around the world to purchase from the extensive array of merchandise offered by more than 575 prominent exhibitors, many of which are the world’s foremost experts in their respective fields. The Baltimore Summer Antiques Show is the largest indoor antiques show in the country, offering guests access to aisle after aisle of fine art, furniture, Asian art, American and European silver, jewelry, porcelain, glass, textiles, American folk art and more, ranging from the antiquities to the 20th century. In addition to exploring the more than 200,000 items on display on the show floor, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy the show’s free, public lecture series headlined by exhibiting dealers and industry experts. Another highlight of the event will be the 90-dealer Antiquarian Book Fair within the show that will feature rare books, first editions, autographs, fine manuscripts and unusual bibliographical material.

German Expressionism: A Revolutionary Spirit at the Baltimore Museum of Art
August 1st-30th, 2014

More than 35 vivid paintings, drawings, prints, watercolors, and sculpture present an overview of the revolutionary art movement that flourished in Germany during the first three decades of the 20th century. The exhibition features powerful examples by Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, and other artists associated with the two most prominent Expressionist artist groups: Die Brücke (The Bridge) and Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), as well as several independent expressionists.The exhibition includes several of the BMA’s outstanding, rarely shown color woodcuts, as well as loans from private collections.

Baltimore’s 4th of July Chesapeake Celebration

Commemorate Independence Day with live music and celebratory fireworks in the heart of downtown Baltimore. Entertainment takes place at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater, located at Pratt and Light Streets. The fireworks can be viewed from several locations in downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods of Federal Hill, Fell’s Point and Harbor East.

37th Season of the Baltimore Farmers Market

While strolling through Maryland’s largest producers-only market, shoppers can revel at the sight of a vast quantity of foods, including crisp fruits and vegetables, poultry, seafood, beef, pork, lamb, bison, goat, rabbit, fresh baked goods, flavorful herbs and organically raised and produced milk, yogurt, butter, eggs and cheese products. Additionally, dozens of food vendors add spice to the market with multicultural cuisine such as popular pit beef sandwiches, omelets and breakfast burritos, crepes, wood fired pizzas, pies and quiches, soups, noodles and dumplings. Artscape

The event is America’s largest free arts festival, attracting more than 350,000 attendees over three days. Artscape features more than 150 fine artists, fashion designers and craftspeople; visual art exhibits on and off-site, including exhibitions, outdoor sculpture, art cars, photography and the Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize. The event also features incredible live concerts on outdoor stages; a full schedule of performing arts including dance, opera, theater, film, experimental music and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; family events such as hands-on projects, demonstrations, competitions, children’s entertainers and street theater and an international menu of food and beverages available throughout the festival site.

Experience the Fort from the water on this lively 35-minute audio tour. The boat tour provides a unique perspective through the eyes of Francis Scott Key’s experience in the hours leading up to writing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The tour will depart daily from the Fort on the hour from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Baltimore African American Festival
June 21-June 22, 2014

This festival celebrates African-American life, music, and culture. This family-oriented event is filled with celebrity artists and entertainers, children’s activities, arts, history, education, financial literacy, health & wellness information and more. Features more than 150 vending booths and attractions as well as two stages of entertainment. And for the first time in history, the African American Festival will feature Radio One’s Stone Soul Picnic – making it the signature event for the summer. The free two-day festival will take place June 21-22 at the Camden Yards Sports & Entertainment Complex. The first day’s performers include “R&B Divas” reality star and singer Monifah, Chico DeBarge, Jacob Latimore and the R&B/funk band Mint Condition. On Sunday, Brandy and Gill will be joined by the Choir Boys and “Preachers of LA” cast member Deitrick Haddon. More artists will be announced as the event draws closer. Last year, Patti LaBelle and Fantasia headlined the event.

Battle of St. Leonard Creek Reenactment
June 21-22, 2014

Plans are underway for a major commemoration of the Battle(s) of St. Leonard Creek. In June 1814, the U.S. Chesapeake Flotilla took on British forces in the Patuxent River, becoming Maryland’s largest naval engagement. This living history event will feature historic craft demonstrations and hands-on educational activities.
